Following Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), Taiwanese telecom operators Far EasTone (FET) and Taiwan Mobile have also put forward their 4G schedules by a month to launch LTE (Long-Term Evolution) commercial services on June 3 and 4, respectively, reported United Daily News. Both of them initially provide 4G services in the island's major metropolises such as Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, using the 700 MHz frequency band, which is supported by a limited number of smartphones. Both companies aim to sign up 400,000 to 500,000 4G subscribers by the end of this year. In related news, the Economic Daily News reported on June 4 that FET and Taiwan Mobile have reached a deal to open and share their respective 1800 MHz spectrum bands, which is supported by most 4G-capable smartphones but are currently used for 2G services by both companies. Both parties expect to provide 4G communications in 1800 MHz in September at the earliest.
